Her Story
Hayden and I met during our senior year of high school. Though we attended different schools, I was introduced to Hayden through a mutual friend who ran cross country and track with him. He wasn't exactly what I considered my type at that time, but he was captain of his team so I figured it wouldn't hurt to be friends with him. To my surprise, we soon found ourselves talking to each other everyday, and I realized that Hayden actually had potential!
Towards the end of senior year, Hayden asked me to tutor him in physics. Somehow, I agreed even though I knew nothing about the subject. This is when I say we started dating. Hayden later asked me to prom, and I still can't believe that I agreed since his way of asking was, "I'll go to yours, if you go to mine." (really?!)
Once freshman year of college started, Hayden had moved north to attend the University of San Francisco, and I headed south to UC San Diego. Though being in a long-distance relationship was not always easy, it was exciting to travel to see him. Luckily for us, Hayden was offered another athletic scholarship to transfer to the University of San Diego the following year.
After college, history decided to repeat itself and bring Hayden back up to the Bay Area to pursue his career in finance while I complete my Pharm.D. in Loma LInda. Though we live 500 miles apart, we have been fortunate to see each other almost every weekend and have definitely racked up our frequent flyer points.
Hayden has always been there to support my ambitions, keep me grounded when needed, and most importantly, make me laugh! Though our personalities are very different, we seem to complement each other and do share the same values. Another thing that I love about Hayden is his passion for traveling and experiencing new destinations. I will never forget when he suprised me with trips to Paris and Brussels for my 21st birthday! A few years later, we traveled to Italy together where he proposed!
It's crazy to think that it has been 8 years since we met. I've seen Hayden go from streetwear and Jordan hightops to custom suits and cufflinks, which I'm sure was all from my positive influence! (haha!) I can't wait to see where we'll be together in 50 years, and I look forward to spending each day having fun with my best friend.
His Story
Michelle and I met when we were 17 through an introduction from a mutual friend. Although she was stone cold to me at first and earned the nickname "Frosty," we became friends and as embarrassed as we are to admit it, we spent lots of time chatting on Aol instant messenger since that was cool back in 2007...
We soon attended each other's prom, which is when I think we started dating.
College was a great time for us as we were able to conquer our academic endeavors and grow our relationship. I always appreciated Michelle attending my different track meets and especially appreciated her dropping me off at 6:30 am practices my senior year so I could sleep in an extra 10 minutes.
After we graduated, Michelle decided to take her talents to Loma Linda University so that she could be a Doctor of Pharmacy, and I moved to the Bay Area. Though we live in different parts of California once again, we have been very lucky to see each other almost every weekend.
Last year Michelle and I decided to travel to Italy for our annual vacation. 2013 was special, though, as I was going propose on our journey. Although we battled gloomy and rainy weather throughout the trip, Michelle's obscure sleeping patterns on our vacations led to an opportunity to propose in the San Marco Plaza with no one around. It was great to have this landmark to ourselves without any other tourists or vendors around. Yes, it may have been 5:45 am, but to us it felt like the middle of the day, and we had the run of the place. She was definitely happily surprised to see a ring that didn't look like the typical Tiffany magazine cut out! I hand picked each part of her ring from various vendors around the world and had it set in the Shreve Building in San Francisco. It's great to be able to throw her a few surprising curve balls once in a while.
Futhermore, I love how supportive Michelle is of my current career and past endeavors. Whether it's sacrificing time together so I could run 10 miles or understanding my desire to move to the Bay Area, she has been my biggest cheerleader. We definitely share a love to travel, and I couldn't imagine trekking across the globe with anyone else...even if she sleeps the majority of the time when we are in foreign countries. I've now known her for a third of my life now, and am happy to call her mine.
